About Sally M. Bixby
On January 1, 2013 the President of the Tournament of Roses will be a nurse and we think it is time for nurses to be in the international spotlight by having a float in the Rose Parade. This parade is seen all over the world so what a unique way to honor how wonderful nurses are and how they make a difference in the lives of patients.
About Sally M. Bixby
Tournament of Roses Vice President Sally Bixby has been a volunteer of the Tournament of Roses Association since 1989. She will serve as president for the 2013 Tournament of Roses, providing leadership for the 124th Rose Parade and the 99th Rose Bowl Game on January 1, 2013. Throughout her extensive Tournament career, Bixby has served on various committees and was chairman of three of them including Queen and Court, Decorating Places and the Host Committee before being elected to the Executive Committee in 2005.
Professionally, Bixby is the Director of Surgical Services at the City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute. In her 19 years of volunteer services in the Tournament of Roses, Bixby is a board member for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation, has been a board member for the Wellness Community Foothills and is an Executive Committee member and Treasurer for the Association of Operating Room Nurses, Los Angeles Chapter. She is also a member of the San Marino League, Women of Pasadena, the Operating Room Nursing Council of California, the Association of California Nurse Leaders, the Association of Nurse Executives, the American Nurses Association of California and the National Organization of the American Nurses Association.
A Pasadena native, Bixby is the daughter of Herb and Betty Maas. She attended Pasadena public schools through high school. She earned her R.N. from Pasadena City College and her Bachelors of Science and Master of Science in Health Care Administration from California State University, Los Angeles. She and her husband Harlan have three children, Hayden, Ryan and Parker, and six grandchildren, Evan, Quinn, McKenna, Madeline, Parker and Duncan. Bixby enjoys biking, golf, gardening and cooking.
Sally Bixby, RN
Sally is a nurse's nurse. She graduated with her AA in Nursing from Pasadena City College in 1972 and went to work at Methodist Hospital of Southern California in Arcadia, California. Over the years she has been successful as a staff nurse and supervisor and she is currently the Director of Surgical Services at City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute. City of Hope is a premier organization that benefits from an international reputation of providing excellent care. Sally graduated with her Master of Science in health care management from California State University, Los Angeles, In addition to her dedication to the Tournament of Roses, Sally has remained a passionate and involved nurse holding memberships in a variety of professional nurse association and actively participating in many of them. Sally's ascension to Vice President of the Tournament of Roses with the achievement of President to be realized in 2013, has given the nurse community an international stage for the first time. Sally was honored and humbled when she was told of the idea to deliver to her parade a Float For Nurses. She is involved in every step of the process and we have her 100% support. Let's make Sally shine as the second woman president of the rose parade and the FIRST nurse—knowing that behind her presidential carriage is a float that represents the profession that has been so important to her.
